  • UPSTATE MATTERS: A helicopter lifts off from the Upstate University Hospital’s helipad following a patient transport. June starts the busiest season for Upstate’s trauma center. Upstate sees the second most trauma cases in the state. Helicopter transports to Upstate from outlying hospitals or accident scenes are the highest in June, July and August.

  •  UPSTATE HONORS: Nearly 900 employees—the largest gathering ever—attend Upstate’s Employee Recognition Day luncheon at the Oncenter June 6. Dr Donald Blair and Francine Fischer led the list of honorees by celebrating a half-century of service to Upstate. Six employees were honored for 45 years of service: Daniel Hmiel, Physical Plant; Candia Keehfus, Infection Prevention; Edward Major, Psychiatry; Karyn Plante, Upstate Triage Center; Darlene Schick-Waller, Upstate Cancer Center; and Bonnie Toms, Pediatrics.
